Navy IFRV Coverall — Improved Flame Resistant Variant, Dark Blue 3392
The Improved Flame Resistant Variant (IFRV) coverall is the U.S. Navy's shipboard utility coverall — Class 1, Color C, Type II, Dark Blue 3392. These are new production, made in the USA, built to the current government purchase description NU-PD 55095B (20 February 2025), which supersedes NU-PD 55095A of 9 December 2024. Not surplus. Not seconds.
Same document, same factory standard as our Green Utility Coverall — that one is Type I, the non-flame-resistant version. Identical cut and construction; the difference is the cloth, and on this one that difference is the whole point.
The flame resistance is inherent to the fiber, not a topical treatment — it does not wash out. The cloth is required to hold its flame-resistance numbers not just when new but after 25 home launderings.

What this is rated for
The flame resistance is inherent to the fiber and verified by the vertical flame test the purchase description requires — ASTM D6413: after-flame ≤ 2.0 sec, afterglow ≤ 25.0 sec, char length ≤ 5.0 in, new and after 25 home launderings.
That test measures flammability — whether the fabric keeps burning once the flame is gone. It is not a measure of how much heat the garment blocks.
This coverall is not third-party certified to NFPA 2112 for flash fire, and it carries no arc rating — no ATPV or EBT, no ASTM F1506 label — so it is not NFPA 70E arc-flash clothing. It is not UL certified, and we do not sell it as certified PPE.
If your employer's hazard assessment calls for an NFPA 2112 certified garment or a specific arc rating in cal/cm², this is not that garment. Tell us what your assessment requires and we will tell you straight whether this meets it.
Construction
- Convertible collar with collar points and a button/buttonhole closure at the neck
- Covered front double-slider zipper with gripper snap fastener securing the fly
- Three horizontally placed bartacks at the front opening
- J-stitch facing — continuous stitching from neck to crotch seam, catching both slide fastener tapes
- Two breast pockets with sewn-down flaps, pencil slots on both (Type II only)
- Loop fastener tape above the wearer's left pocket flap for name and rank tapes (Type II only)
- FR identification tab sewn into the seam at the wearer's left breast pocket (Type II only)
- Long sleeves with covered plackets and adjustable two-button cuffs
- Two lower flat patch pockets sewn to the side seam
- Two back hip patch pockets — left flapped, right open
- Two-piece upper back with a single pleat in each panel at the waistband
- Waistband with belt loops; hanger loop at the back neck seam
Size chart
Size numbers are your chest measurement, not the garment’s. Measure under the arms across the fullest part of your chest and pick that number — the coverall is cut four inches larger for movement, so a size 40 finishes at 44 inches around. Every figure below is a finished-garment measurement taken flat, from Table VI of NU-PD 55095B, the same table these are inspected against.

Care
Machine wash and tumble dry. Do not use chlorine bleach, and do not apply starch, fabric softener or any topical finish — they can deposit a flammable residue on the surface of an otherwise flame-resistant garment.
